Actigraphy
Actigraphy
Actigraphy is used to monitor sleep over many days or weeks. This is useful in the diagnosis of Circadian Rhythm sleep Disorders and in some cases of insomnia.
Advanced Sleep Studies
are laboratory based and can be arranged at a sleep laboratory. These include:
Full Polysomnography (full PSG): Full PSG enables a comprehensive evaluation of sleep. This test is carried out in a sleep laboratory. During a PSG, we monitor the ‘brain waves’ (electroencephalogram), eye movements, skeletal muscle tone as well as the respiratory airflow and movements and pulse oximetry. In addition, the sleeping person is monitored via video and audio recording. Full PSG is provided at the Aneurin Bevan Sleep Centre.
Multiple Sleep Latency Test: is a measure of the propensity to fall asleep in one’s wake time. This test is required for the diagnosis of narcolepsy.
Maintenance of Wakefulness Test: measures one’s ability to keep awake. This test can help in assessing the fitness to drive.
